# Introduction

> Manage PowerDialer contact lists and read a user's call analytics from your own systems, server to server.

The PowerDialer Public API lets an external system manage contact lists and read call analytics without a browser login. Every request acts on behalf of one PowerDialer user, named in a header, so one integration can serve many users with a single key.

## How requests work

1. Authenticate with the shared key — `Authorization: Bearer <key>` or `x-api-key: <key>`.
2. Name the PowerDialer user the request acts for — `x-user-email` or `x-user-id`.
3. Call an endpoint. Reads and writes are limited to lists that user owns, and analytics are that user's own.

<Warning>
  Keep the key on your server. Anyone holding it can act for **any** user, so it must never be embedded in a browser, mobile app or other client-side code.
</Warning>
